Jewish Comedy: A Serious History

Jeremy Dauber

There’s the popular archetypes such as the Jewish mother, the JAP, the schlemiel and schlimazel; and the enormous range of comic masterpieces like the Book of Esther, Yiddish satires, and Seinfeld; and there’s the comedic masters such as Sholem Aleichem, Woody Allen and Joan Rivers.

In his recent work, both erudite and very funny, Jeremy Dauber traces the origins of Jewish comedy and its development from biblical times to the age of Twitter. Join us as Dauber explores the ways Jewish comedy has dealt with persecution, assimilation and diaspora through the ages.

There will be a book signing following this event.
