This Shabbat Shabbang is presented in partnership with Women Cook. Women Cook is an Israeli social enterprise, created in 2000 to feature the Israeli culinary and cultural experience while fostering the empowerment of women. The women in the initiative are proud of their rich ethnic and culinary traditions and experience their traditions as a source of power and opportunity: financially, personally, and communally.

The initiative is made up of women from economically distressed communities hailing from different culinary traditions; Moroccan, Kurdish, Tunisian, Ethiopian, Yemenite, and many more. They have cooked meals and organized workshops for children and adults and participated in festive events with music, dancing, and sharing of our women’s stories and their beautiful traditional dress and of course delicious food, in Africa, North America and the Middle East.

This unique Shabbat will feature two Shabbangs at 9 pm. In our lobby, we will conclude our evening with coffee, dessert, and conversation in a traditionally observant space. For those who are more flexible with their Shabbat practice, we invite you to join our Auditorium Dancing Oneg, which will include coffee, dessert, and community folk dancing led by the amazing women of Women Cook according to each of their traditions.

Each room will feature a chef responsible for our incredible meal. The women will each anchor a dinner: telling her stories, sharing her culture, showcasing some songs and photos.
