Grammy-winning trumpeter Sir Frank London of The Klezmatics and Grammy-nominated percussion virtuoso Deep Singh transform Irving Fields’ classic 1959 LP Bagels & Bongos into a slamming Yiddish-infused Punjabi bhangra party! Fields fused Latin and Yiddish music in interpreting classic Yiddish songs like “Bay Mir Bist du Sheyn”, London and Singh add a host of influences from Downtown Jazz to Bollywood to Klezmer. Their special guest on this concert will be the legendary Yiddish singer, Avi Hoffman.

Frank and Deep have collaborated on a number of projects, from Sharabi, the world’s first Bhangra-Funk-Klezmer party band, to the radical multimedia re-telling of Salomé: Woman of Valor. Deep studied with Ustad Alla Rakha and taught George Harrison and has played with with everyone from Falu to Sting He was featured in the Broadway shows Bombay Dreams and Monsoon Wedding; nominated for a Grammy for his work on Falu’s Bazaar; and is New York’s pre-eminent dhol and tabla player. Frank London, the “mystic high priest of downtown avant klezmer-jazz”, recently premiered his Cuban-Yiddish opera, Hatuey Memory of Fire. Recent events include the sold out Carnegie Hall concert From The Shtetl to the Stage; Ghetto Songs at Hamburg’s prestigious Elbephilharmonie, and Kurt Weill in NY at the Weill Festival in Dessau, Germany. On May 28, 2019 he will unveil the spectacle In Dreams Begin Responsibilities at the New York Public Library. Frank composes operas and symphonies, has played with Pink Floyd, Angelique Kidjo, Lester Bowie, Itzhak Perlman, Mel Tormé, Karen O, John Zorn; co-created the Downtown festival Yiddish New York, and was on Sex And The City.
